Recollections of the Queen’s Coronation, May 2022 | The Veranda
Members of our community groups were invited to document their memories of the Queen’s Coronation, held on 2nd June 1953, in support of our Jubilee Legacy for North East Essex archive.
We were thrilled to receive 7, such varied accounts from attendees at our weekly Art Club. Each provides illuminating insights into the national significance of the Coronation, such as how it was celebrated, alongside glimpses into social history; where people lived, what they were doing, plus several recall their parents purchasing a television or hiring one to watch it! It seems funny to read how technology was so basic, especially as so many of us now rely on it within our day-to-day lives.
