Tendring Specialist Stroke Services
The centre at Holland on Sea is owned and run by TSSS for its stroke rehabilitation activities. Our daily groups at both Holland on Sea and Dovercourt provide tailored programmes for people with stroke, focused on reducing disability and increasing the prospects for a more fulfilling life. Our friendly staff are trained and committed to improving and enhancing the quality of life for Tendring stroke survivors carers and families.
The services are run by experienced qualified professional staff, and dedicated trained volunteers. The organisation works closely with health professionals. TSSS liaises with the Anglian Community Enterprise speech and language therapists. A qualified Art Tutor facilitates a weekly art class. In addition, a Consultant Physiotherapist provides advice and guidance with regards to mobility concerns.
The Stroke Survivors and Carers’ Support Service offer domiciliary visits, telephone helpline, practical and emotional support. Primary and secondary stroke prevention information and advice is available to all members of the community.
We are here to help
Tendring Specialist Stroke Services is a registered charity, originally set up over 30 years ago. We are partly funded by the Care Commissioning Group (previously partially funded by the now defunct Primary Care Trust). We provide help and support to people affected by stroke. We do this in a number of ways:
We promote understanding of stroke and its effects.
We provide information about the effects of stroke on stroke survivors, their carers, and families. We publish a range of booklets and leaflets containing information about aspects of stroke that will be helpful to those directly affected, plus professionals, and members of the public.
We support the individual, carer, and the family over a continuum.
We encourage independence, independent living, and the regaining of life skills as well as building confidence.
We raise insight and self awareness, self worth, and self esteem.
We encourage social and therapeutic activities.
We can access benefits advise, and also provide advocacy services.
We have a visiting consultant Physiotherapist and Speech and Language Therapist and work closely alongside other health professionals.
