Read House is a purpose-built residential home at Frinton-on-Sea, designed for the care needs of elderly people with visual impairment, either on a permanent or short-stay basis. It is the only centre of its kind in Essex.
However, we are happy to consider applications from people without a visual impairment who wish to find a friendly and comfortable environment, with a team of experienced care staff who are dedicated to the happiness and well-being of the residents.
We are an independent care home owned and managed by Essex Blind Charity.
Read House is situated overlooking the Greensward and the sea. It is a few minutes away from Connaught Avenue, the main shopping street of Frinton with its many independent shops and cafés.
We have a large secluded garden with a fishpond, fountain and gazebo, where residents can enjoy social events and summer tea parties.
A few minutes away are the Gold award-winning Crescent Gardens, a small but beautiful oasis surrounded by trees and flowering shrubs, with stunning displays of Spring and Summer flowers.
Read House comprises 37 en-suite rooms, the majority of which are single. There are three twin-bedded rooms, with two rooms reserved for short-stay residents.
Residents are encouraged to personalise their room by bringing in small items of furniture, pictures, photos and other mementoes.
Call facilities throughout the home ensure prompt attention. Local GPs visit the home regularly and we also offer chiropody, dental treatment, optical care and hairdressing by visiting professionals. Read House has established a reputation for high standards and individual care. Our staff, most of whom have been with us for many years, are fully experienced in caring for senior citizens with visual impairment or those needing support in later life.
