Colchester Gateway Clubs are... an independent local charity, providing social clubs and activities for adults with learning disabilities. The main aim of our clubs is for people to enjoy themselves in a relaxed atmosphere. The Charity is established to enable people with learning disabilities to access leisure and social activities in the community and the opportunities for personal development including self advocacy.
 
The Charity campaigns for and with people with learning disabilities for the rights of people with learning disabilities and works with other organisations and groups for the benefit of people with learning disabilities. Colchester Gateway Clubs actively promote campaigns that are important for, people with a learning disability. We have been involved with the “Stay up late” initiative, Essex Safeguarding Adults, “Its my life”, Safe Relationships project, Anti Bullying and Anti Discrimination. In addition, service navigation, referral and advocacy is available where appropriate. These objects are supported by entrance fees, donations and fundraising activities.
 
The Charity employs professional staff who carry out the week-to-week running of the clubs. Members of the clubs are from the age of eighteen upwards with no age limit. All are appropriate for this age group. Colchester Gateway Clubs are dedicated to respect all individuals regardless of backgrounds, abilities and beliefs. Equal access is provided across the charity regardless of race, age, culture, disability, religion, sexual orientation or gender.
