Government assistance with fuel and energy costs

Are you struggling with energy costs for your home? If so, help is available.

Earlier this year the government announced a range of measures to support households affected by the escalating cost of energy, creating a new scheme, named the Mandatory Energy Rebate Scheme.

Through this scheme rebates of £150 will be issued to households who pay for Council Tax whilst living in properties with a banding of A – D and those in band E with banding reductions as an impact of disability. These rebates will be issued through the appropriate Local Councils.

Eligible households will receive this payment regardless of any reductions in charges brought about by Local Council Tax reductions or rebates.

Where payments of Council Tax are ordinarily made by direct debit, the rebate of £150 will be issued directly to that account. Where the Local Council does not hold account details, the eligible person should contact their Local Council to register their eligibility for this rebate.

Alongside this mandatory scheme, each Local Council is also exploring ways to administer a Discretionary Rebate Scheme to support affected people living in properties with a banding of E – H.
