Feeling lonely?
“I feel like my volunteer saved my life. She is cheerful and we always end our conversations laughing. I do not know how I would have gotten through without her.”
Over 80,000 people in Essex are thought to feel lonely, so you are not alone.
Half of all people aged over 70 live on their own and we know that spending long periods alone can cause feelings of loneliness, fear, anxiety, and depression.
But it’s not only people in later years who feel lonely.
Loneliness can happen at any age, especially if you feel misunderstood, or singled out by unordinary life events, have a health condition, or another unique circumstance. You could also be a carer, looking after a family member or friend.
Our community and friendship services provide helpful support to anyone who is aged over 18 and living in Essex.
We are here to help, and we offer both volunteer friendship (befriending) and local community groups and activities.

Befriending
Our Befriending service offers a matched friendship between a client and a trained unpaid volunteer. We help to facilitate one to one, telephone sessions, and trips out.
Community groups
We run a range of inclusive friendship groups, face-to-face and online. Connect with like-minded people across Essex and have fun!
